Corvus Energy has obtained Type Approval from Lloyd’s Register (LR) for its Dolphin NxtGen Energy marine battery system.
The approval certifies that the system meets the safety and regulatory standards set by the maritime class society.

Corvus has already secured Type Approval from Bureau Veritas and DNV for the battery system.
The Dolphin NxtGen Energy storage system (ESS) is designed with safety features that exceed class and flag state requirements, according to the company.
It builds upon the success of the widely adopted Corvus Orca ESS, incorporating advanced safety measures such as passive single-cell Thermal Runaway (TR) isolation and a dedicated TR gas exhaust system.
The ESS features a lightweight construction, high energy density, and a modular design that optimises space and weight efficiency, vital for both small and large battery installations.

Corvus’ battery management system (BMS) and proprietary digital solutions, including real-time remote monitoring and digital twin technology, further enhance the operational safety of the Dolphin NxtGen ESS throughout its lifecycle.
These digital tools allow for continuous oversight and predictive maintenance capabilities.

Last month, Corvus Energy received an order to supply a large battery system for the world’s “first” fully electric offshore vessel.
The electric Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (eCSOV) will be built by Armon shipyard in Spain for UK-based shipowner Bibby Marine.
