The Government of India is set to commence the Gogha-Dahej Ro-Pax Ferry service on 27 October.
The Rs6.15bn ($84m) project is part of the Ministry of Shipping’s Sagarmala programme, which will connect Gujarat’s Dahej and Gogha across the Gulf of Cambay, via sea.

Introduction of the service follows a recent trial run that involved the transportation of 12 loaded trucks by a Ro-Pax ferry using the Gogha-Dahej sea route.
The ferry service is expected to reduce the travelling distance between Gogha and Dahej from 294km to 31km. The service is also set to bring down the travelling time between the two places from eight to 1.5 hours.
The fully operational service has the ability to carry 100 vehicles and 500 passengers.
India Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari said: “Gogha-DahejRo-Pax Ferry service is all set to connect Saurashtra and South Gujarat.”

By GlobalDataThe central government has provided Rs1.17bn ($16bn) of the total fund required for the Gogha-Dahej Ro-Pax Ferry service project.
Besides reducing travel time, the travel is expected to lower fuel consumption, carbon dioxide (CO2) emission and road congestion.
The project is also set to help the diamond and textiles traders and workers in Surat in the state of Gujarat, and support socio-economic development in the nearby areas.
In a separate development, the governments of India and Bangladesh discussed several issues related to the protocol arrangements and improvement of inland water transportation between the two countries.
