France-based GTT has secured a contract from Chinese shipyard Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding to design liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks for two new vessels.

Dynagas is expected to take ownership of both vessels upon completion, which are to be built at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding’s yard in Shanghai, China.

The vessels are set to include two dual-purpose units capable of operating efficiently as both LNG carriers and floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs).

Each carrier will feature a capacity of 174,000m³ and delivery is currently scheduled to take place by 2021.

"This new order highlights the trusting relationships GTT maintains with this shipyard, which is part of the biggest shipbuilding group in China."

GTT chairman and CEO Philippe Berterottière said: “This new order highlights the trusting relationships GTT maintains with this shipyard, which is part of the biggest shipbuilding group in China.”

The company intends to employ its membrane cryogenic containment system NO96 GW with glass wool insulation for the Dynagas vessels’ LNG storage solutions.

The GTT technology has currently been used by 14 vessels in operation and a further 42 presently on order.

GTT also recently received a contract from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and French shipping group CMA CGM to design cryogenic tanks for nine LNG-fuelled container ships.

Hudong-Zhonghua will be responsible for building five of the nine vessels, as well as the membrane tanks for all nine ships.

Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding will build the remaining four container units.

Delivery of the nine vessels is due to be carried out between late-2019 and the end of 2020.
