German cloud-based software service provider Hanseaticsoft has joined the e-healthy ship project, which aims to optimise health management on-board container and merchant vessels.

Funded by the European Union (EU), the project also intends to improve healthcare for workers on the high seas, further develop on-board health promotion, as well as support the implementation of health and safety regulations.

As part of the project, information technology (IT) will be developed to test, analyse and advance the development of the established maritime information system network.

The e-healthy ship will cover the health, wellbeing and empowerment of the seafarers, in addition to the protection of personnel resources on the vessels operated by various shipping companies in Hamburg.

“The findings will eventually help in the development of an e-health platform that will support and relieve nautical officers in the medical care of crew members.”

In order to achieve its goals, the project’s interdisciplinary team will evaluate and empirically survey the requirements of seafarers on-board four vessels, conceptualise the e-health platform and its contents, as well as test the usability of the platform on-board ships and finalise the design of its contents.

Scientists working in occupational and shipping medicine sector, software developers and shipping companies are part of the interdisciplinary team.
