Kalmar, a provider of cargo handling solutions and services to ports and terminals, has secured an order to supply 16 terminal tractors to Container Terminal Saint-Petersburg CJSC (CTSP).

The order was booked in Cargotec’s Q1 2019 order intake.

The machines will be delivered during Q3 of 2019.

Situated in the Big port of St Petersburg, Russia, CTSP is involved in handling all kinds of containerised cargo at its facilities, which feature an automated control system for high-speed container handling on ship, road and rail transport.

In recent years, the terminal has experienced significant growth in demand, with a 12% rise in throughput in 2018 compared to 2017.

CTSP currently operates a fleet of more than 50 Kalmar machines, including terminal tractors, reachstackers, forklifts, and empty container handlers.

Based in Finland, Kalmar is part of Finnish company Cargotec, which manufactures cargo-handling machinery for ships, ports, terminals as well as for local distribution.

CTSP (CJSC) managing director Alexander Scherbinin said: “Due to its high manoeuvrability, ease of operation and ergonomic cabin, Kalmar equipment allows to keep the handling of containers at a high level.

“Throughout the existence of the terminal, Kalmar equipment has proven itself from the best side. It is reliable, easy-to-maintain equipment.”

Last December, Kalmar agreed to provide 30 of its Ottawa T2 terminal tractors to Tecon Santos container terminal facility in Brazil.

The terminal is situated at the largest port facility in Latin America, Port of Santos, and is operated by Santos Brasil Participações.
