Lithuania’s Klaipedos Smelte has placed an order for 12 cranes, which includes ten rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes and two ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, with Konecranes.
The cranes will be installed at Klaipedos Smelte’s facility at the Port of Klaipeda in Lithuania.

The latest deal follows a recent order placed by Klaipedos Smelte with Konecranes for the delivery of ten RTG and two STS cranes at the Port of Klaipeda.
Klaipedos Smelte general director Rimantas Juška said: “This repeat order is an important milestone as we grow towards our long-term target of becoming the most efficient container terminal in the eastern Baltic and a 1,000,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) transhipment hub.”
The company’s new STS cranes will be Post-Panamax in size and will have an outreach of 52m each.
With a lifting capacity of 65t and a lifting height of 42m, the STS cranes will be able to serve the ultra-large container vessels that are planned for the Baltic Sea.

By GlobalDataKlaipedos Smelte’s new RTG cranes will be designed to run on gensets with an improved fuel-saving system and conductor bar readiness for future conversion to busbar electric power.
The 16-wheel machines will feature a lifting capacity of 40t and are capable of stacking one-over-six containers-high and six plus truck lane-wide.
They will include an auto-steering feature to keep themselves on a pre-programmed, straight driving path. The RTG cranes will also be equipped with gantry and stack collision prevention systems.
Deliveries of the RTG and STS cranes are scheduled to take place by November and December next year, respectively.
Klaipedos Smelte, which is part of the worldwide container terminal network controlled by Terminal Investment (TIL), currently operates a fleet of seven Konecranes RTGs and three Konecranes STSs.
