Arctech Helsinki Shipyard has started construction of two new icebreakers for Sovcomflot, a Russia-based shipping firm.
The two multifunctional icebreaking supply vessels (MIBSV) will have a length of 99.2m and breadth of 21.7m and are scheduled to be completed by spring 2013.
Upon completion the two MIBSV will be used as supply vessels for Exxon Neftegas’ platform at the Sakhalin-1 field.
The vessels are equipped with four engines that have the total power of 18,000 kW and are designed to operate in extreme environmental conditions.
The two MIBSV will be able to operate in thick drifting ice in temperatures as cold as -35°C.
