The terminal is expected to start operations by 2016.

The company said that once the terminal is fully operational, it is expected that the coal export capacity will increase to 60Mtpa.

The port is capable of handling 50Mt of coal, according to Dow Jones.

In May 2011, the Queensland state government in Australia awarded a 99-year lease for the X50 Abbot Point coal terminal to India’s Adani Group for $1.83bn.
