Global leisure travel company Carnival has entered into a memorandum of agreement with German and Finnish shipbuilders Meyer Werft and Meyer Turku to build three more liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered ships.
Meyer Turku will build two of the new LNG-powered ships at its shipyard in Turku, Finland.

Deliveries of the ships are expected in 2020 and 2022, following which they will be used by Carnival Cruise Line.
Meyer Werft will build the third ship, to be used by P&O Cruises UK, at its shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, with delivery expected in 2020.
Once completed, these LNG-powered ships will help Carnival reduce exhaust emissions to help protect the environment and enable the company to meet sustainability goals.
The latest shipbuilding deals are subject to several conditions, including satisfactory financing.

So far, the company has placed an order to build a total of seven LNG-powered cruise ships, across four of its ten global cruise brands.
The first of these ships is scheduled to be in service for Carnival’s AIDA Cruises and Costa Cruises in 2019.
This year, under the company’s fleet enhancement plan, Carnival has already taken delivery of three new ships for its AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, and Holland America Line brands.
