Jenson

US-based Crowley Maritime subsidiary Jensen Maritime has been offered the chance to design and deliver production engineering services for two, 100 passenger, US flagged, coastal cruise ships for Lindblad Expeditions Holdings.

The twin screw diesel ships will be constructed at the Washington state shipyard of Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) and is scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2017 and 2018.

Built with an investment of $94.8m, the ships will embark on its winter tour between Baja, Costa Rica and Panama and to its summer tour to southeast Alaska, Oregon, Washington and Canada.

Jensen will leverage its 3D modelling capabilities, which will involve integrating all the details of the structural, electrical, and mechanical and HVAC systems of the vessel into one comprehensive, full-size 3D, computer model.

"With our 3D capabilities, the customer will have virtually walked every deck and inspected every system long before stepping onto the vessel. "

This will enable Lindblad to assess and verify the vessel’s architecture, maintenance envelopes and an operational access prior to confirming its construction.

An early inspection of the design process is expected to ensure safety and pave the way for maintainability and constructability.

Jensen vice-president Johan Sperling said: "With our 3D capabilities, the customer will have virtually walked every deck and inspected every system long before stepping onto the vessel and long before each system is installed, giving them further confidence that this ship will be exactly the high quality passenger vessel they intended."

Jensen Maritime, in August 2015, introduced two new, liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker barge concepts, featuring an option to customise as per specific requirements.
