Damen Shipyards has delivered a new high-speed catamaran passenger ferry, the Queen Star 2, to Seaworld Express Ferry.
The new vessel marks the third of the Damen Fast Ferry (DFFe) series delivered this year to South Korean operators.
Queen Star 2, a DFFe 4010, will be sailing a three-hour route stretching from Usuyoung Port to Jeju Island via Chujado Island.
The vessel is equipped with a controllable pitch propeller (CPP) to boost the maximum speed limits while maintaining fuel efficiency under varying loading conditions at different speeds.
DFFe 4010 features two engines instead of four, can cruise at a top speed of 35k knots and is expected to have the capacity to accommodate nearly 450 passengers.
Damen sales manager Michiel Hendrix said: "This is a unique delivery with the first DFFe 4010 going into operation which is expected to be a successful model for the future."
Damen Shipyards had delivered SeaStar 5 to Seaspovill, an existing customer earlier this year.
In addition, a DFFe 4212 named Sunrise from Damen Shipyards Singapore (DSSi) was delivered to Daezer Shipping in May, within three months of ordering.
The vessel, which is currently operating on Korea’s east coast from the island of Ulleung to Dokdo, is powered by four MTU main engines (16V2000 M72) and cruises at a speed of over 40k.
With the latest acquisition, Daezer is expected to increase its service offering in the region.
Damen’s product line of fast ferries comprises of Damen Fast Ferry 3609, Damen Fast Ferry 3209 in addition to Damen Fast Ferry 4212, Damen Fast Ferry 4010.
