Diana Containerships has signed two MoUs to acquire two Post-Panamax container vessels from an unaffiliated third-party.

Signed through two subsidiaries, the agreement will see Diana Containerships receiving vessels named m/v Rotterdam and m/v Hamburg.

Diana will purchase the 2008-built Rotterdam for $37.5m, while Hamburg, constructed in 2009, will be acquired for $38.5m.

"With these acquisitions, Diana’s fleet will feature 14 container vessels, including six Post-Panamax and eight Panamax, as well as a Panamax container vessel, the m/v Cap Domingo."

The 6,500teu Rotterdam and Hamburg are expected to be delivered by mid-September and the end of November this year, respectively.

The company also chartered the m/v Hamburg MSC-Mediterranean Shipping $14,000 per day, with an option to redeliver the vessel at any time between 13 January and 13 March next year.

Meanwhile, the company has signed a memorandum of agreement to sell a 2001-built vessel, Cap Domingo, in a $24,250,000 deal, which is expected to be delivered by mid-March next year.

In March, the company received two 2006-built, 5,000teu Panamax container vessels, m/v YM Los Angeles and m/v YM New Jersey, as part of an agreement. Both vessels are chartered to Yang Ming.
