DSME and GL had started a joint project in 2010 to explore technology options and safety concepts for large LNG-fuelled container vessels.

The LNG fuelled vessel will be both environmentally friendly and offer cost savings.

The move comes as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is proposing to reduce SOX emissions from vessels by 2015 and new vessels operating in ECAs (emission control areas) are required to reduce NOX emission by 80% by 2016 compared with 2010.
