The Liberty is a 610ft long LNG-conversion-ready product tanker with 50,000 deadweight ton (dwt) and has a cargo capacity of 330,000 barrels.

Designed by South Korea-based Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering’s subsidiary DSEC, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) conversion-ready product carriers are based on ECO MR tanker design, which enhances fuel-efficiency and introduces the latest environmental protection features, such as a ballast water treatment system and lower emissions.

The vessel will be propelled by a G-series MAN ME slow-speed main engine.

The tankers will be fitted with conversion-capable, dual-fuel-capable auxiliary engines and can accommodate the future installation of an LNG fuel-gas system and tanks.

The construction of the Liberty commenced in 2015 and following delivery it will be operated by Seabulk Tankers.

Construction and operation of the new vessel has been carried out in-line with the Jones Act, which requires that ships carrying cargo between US ports be built in local shipyards.

Last month, GD Nassco delivered the first of the three ECO-class tankers, the Independence to SEA-Vista.
