Keppel FELS has won a $245m contract from Ensco to build a KFELS Super A Class harsh environment jack-up rig.

The order is the result of an option exercised by Ensco following its order for two Keppel FELS rigs on 10 February this year.

The KFELS Super A Class rig can operate at a water depth of 400ft and drilling depth of 40,000ft.

The company said that the rig features an offline stand building capability to handle drill pipes efficiently, boosting overall rig performance and productivity.

The rig is scheduled for delivery in third quarter of 2014.
