Cargotec unit MacGregor has secured an order to provide gravity self-unloading systems for two 29,800 deadweight tonnage (dwt) bulk carriers from the Yangzijiang shipyard in China.
The new bulkers are scheduled to be delivered between later this year and early next year to Canadian Great Lakes operator, Algoma.

This order has been booked into the first quarter of the 2016 order intake.
The new vessels will join Algoma’s fleet of 13 domestic self-unloading vessels operating on the Great Lakes and the St Lawrence Seaway.
Under the contract, MacGregor will deliver an automated, self-unloading system to be incorporated into the fleet of new vessels.
The system is designed to support a maximum unloading rate of 5,450 tonnes per hour (t/h) for stone or iron ore, and 4,360t/h for coal.

By GlobalDataMacGregor is responsible for the design of the complete self-unloading system, which includes a discharge boom, full flow cargo gates, conveyor belts, cross conveyors, and a C-loop.
The gravity self-unloading system is said to offer a fast, efficient and environmentally friendly discharge of coarse bulk materials.
It can operate over a duration of 24 hours a day across a week. It can be customised in accordance to the vessel’s requirements and can be installed into both newly-built vessels as well as conversions.
