Maerospace has secured a deal to provide improved maritime domain awareness services for the Government of Canada, including space-based automatic identification system (AIS) data.

The three-year agreement will see Maerospace supply AIS data from its partner, Orbcomm's Canadian subsidiary SkyWave. The data will also be passed through TimeCaster technology before delivery, improving its accuracy.

The newly announced deal is funded for one year, and includes a one-year option that could extend the contract for a total of three years.

Maerospace CEO and founder Eric Meger said: “We are truly excited to be supporting the national security mission of the Canadian government with this project.

“This is a major step for us, and a validation of our efforts to create the world’s most accurate and complete picture of the maritime domain.

Maerospace’s TimeCaster technology helps maritime authorities and commercial ship and cargo companies to track vessels with improved precision.

Orbcomm CEO Marc Eisenberg said: “We have a large presence in Canada with approximately 150 employees, and this contract is a significant win for Orbcomm that reaffirms our position as the industry’s preferred provider of satellite AIS data.”

The company is currently involved in delivering machine-to-machine (M2M) and internet of things (IoT) solutions, and operates a commercial satellite network dedicated to M2M.
