Rolls-Royce has received two contracts worth £23m from Brazilian ship-owner Navegação São Miguel to design and equip seven new vessels.
The contract includes four Rolls-Royce designed UT 535 E oil spill recovery vessels (OSRV) and three new NVC 604 BT design bunker tankers. Rolls-Royce president of offshore Anders Almestad said these vessels combine proven Rolls-Royce design with a range of mission-critical onboard technology, which has been specifically designed for the demanding deepwater oil and gas market. “Our innovative technology will help to ensure that offshore companies can deliver their challenging operations safely,” Almestad said.

The OSRV will be equipped to prevent environmental damage from oil spills and have the capacity to transfer recovered oil for proper onshore disposal, while the bunker tankers will supply fuel to ships offshore.
The company said that the vessels meet the national Brazilian oil company Petrobras’ PSV-OSRV 750-10 specification. They will be equipped to prevent environmental damage from oil spills as well as transfer the recovered oil to offshore. The vessels will be built to DNV class and are scheduled to be delivered before the end of 2014, after which they will be chartered to Petrobras.
The UT535 E has a length of 61.7m with diesel-electric propulsion and 1,400dwt, and in its platform supply role it can carry deck cargo and liquid cargo in tanks. In addition to the design, the company will also supply major equipment and systems, which include two 1,470kW main azimuth propulsion thrusters fitted with nozzles, two 590kW bow thrusters, and deck machinery and electrical systems.
Earlier this month, the company signed a contract to deliver engines and propulsion systems for the world’s first liquid natural gas (LNG)-fuelled tugs. The two tugs were ordered by Norwegian company Buksér og Berging and will enter service in late 2013 for Statoil and Gassco.
