Royal Caribbean Cruises has awarded a contract to German shipbuilder Meyer Werft to build a fifth Quantum-class cruise ship.
The new vessel is slated to be delivered in 2020.

Upon delivery, the new vessel will join the cruise operator’s fleet of Quantum-class vessels consisting of Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas.
This order follows after Meyer Werft was contracted by the cruise operator in May to build a fourth Quantum-class cruise ship.
The first two vessels, which were delivered in October 2014 and April this year, are currently operational with the cruise operator.
Meanwhile the third vessel is expected to be delivered in 2016.

By GlobalDataThe ships will have a length of 348m, width of 136m, depth of 8.5m and gross tonnage capacity of 167,800t.
The vessels will feature a giant mechanical arm to take passengers more than 300ft high above the vessels in glass capsules.
Royal Caribbean Cruises chairman and CEO Richard D. Fain said: “It is such a pleasure to announce the order of another Quantum-class ship as we are welcoming Anthem of the Seas to North America.
“These ships have been received with excitement, and performed exceptionally well, across the globe.
“We fully expect that momentum to continue as we add to this innovative class of ships.”
Including the recent contract, Royal Caribbean’s projected capital expenditures have reached $1.6bn in 2015, $2.4bn in 2016, $0.5bn in 2017, $2.5bn in 2018 and $1.4bn in 2019.
Royal Caribbean expects to expand its capacity by 5.4% in 2015, 6.4% in 2016, 3.4% in 2017, 3.7% in 2018 and 6.6% in 2019.
