UK-based SRT Marine Systems has launched a new automatic identification system (AIS), SAT-Trak technology, with an aim of improving the tracking of vessels with AIS transceivers by AIS satellite systems (S-AIS).

Working solely through AIS transceivers, SAT-Trak allows satellites to receive a higher percentage of their transmissions than usual capacity allows for.

Developed on the basis of SRT’s radio communication core technology, the newly launched technology provides AIS-based tracking systems for vessel traffic services (VTS), vessel monitoring systems (VMS), as well as maritime safety and security.

"SAT-Trak technology is yet another innovation that will benefit our customers in applications such as fishing boat monitoring (VMS)."

SRT Marine Systems CEO Simon Tucker said: “Satellite AIS enables extended range tracking of vessels fitted with AIS transceivers, but they typically receive a very low percentage of the transmissions.

“For over 25 years SRT has been at the leading edge of advanced radio communications technology development and this experience and expertise is reflected in the superior field performance of our products.

“SAT-Trak technology is yet another innovation that will benefit our customers in applications such as fishing boat monitoring (VMS) providing significantly increased long range vessel tracking capability using AIS.”
