St Johns Ship Building has received a contract from construction firm Skanska to build a custom crane spud barge.

The 150ft barge has been customised to accommodate a variety of crane sizes and will become part of Skanska’s core fleet of vessels.

The vessel will initially be outfitted with a Liebherr LR1300 330t crane and will support the Pier 5 expansion project in Norfolk, Virginia, US.

The barge will be built with grade A50 material, which provides 50,000lb of tensile strength per square inch, according to marinelog.com.
