Wärtsilä is to supply its Wärtsilä Auxpac 32 generating sets for eight new 13,500teu container vessels being built for China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), at Hudong-Zhonghua, China.

Under the order, Wärtsilä’s joint venture company CSSC Wärtsilä Engine (Shanghai) will deliver 32 engines, four of which will be incorporated in each vessel.

Delivery of engines to the yard is expected to begin next year.

The Wärtsilä Auxpac 32 is an auxiliary engine version of the Wärtsilä 32 family, of which 1,200 engines are being operated worldwide.

The generating set offers reliability, economic fuel consumption and high availability in accordance with the customer’s needs.

The total power output from the contracted Wärtsilä engines will exceed 100MW.

"The Wärtsilä Auxpac 32 engine is a good choice for this application since its design parameters are very much in line with the operational profile needs of the vessels."

It is suited for large container vessels with auxiliary power requirements from 2,500kWe to 4,500kWe per generating set.

The machine provides a power-to-space ratio that is said to attract the upper end of the merchant shipping market.

Wärtsilä Marine Solutions president Roger Holm said: "The Wärtsilä Auxpac 32 engine is a good choice for this application since its design parameters are very much in line with the operational profile needs of the vessels."

Last month, Wärtsilä’s joint venture company in China Wärtsilä CME Zhenjiang Propeller (WCME) was chosen by Greek shipping fleet operator, TMS Tankers, to supply its fixed pitch propellers (FPPs) to be installed in the new tankers, being constructed in China.
