Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has received the contract to provide four of its waterjets, along with the hydraulics and control system, for a new 109m-long high-speed RoPax ferry.
The ship is currently being built at the Austal Ships yard in Australia for Molslinjen A/S of Denmark.

Wärtsilä’s compact axial flow jet solution offers optimal weight and performance criteria for the ship’s mission profile, and as such was considered suitable choice for the ferry by the contractor.
Wärtsilä Marine Solutions Propulsion vice-president Arto Lehtinen said: “This is a prestigious newbuild project and we are proud that our waterjets have been selected to drive this high-speed ferry.
“The proven design and reliable performance of the Wärtsilä solution were deciding factors in the winning of this contract.”
The vessel will feature two full vehicle decks for 425 cars, or 610 lane metres for trucks and up to 232 cars.

By GlobalDataIt will be able to attain a top speed of 40 knots and be capable of carrying up to 1,000 passengers.
The new all-aluminium catamaran ship will operate on the crossing of the Kattegat between Aarhus and Odden.
Wärtsilä is scheduled to deliver all the contracted equipment to the yard in May next year, while the ship is expected to be ready for delivery during the final quarter of next year.
The high-performance components are made of stainless steel and are completely corrosion free.
Wärtsilä customises the inlet design to the outline according to the operational profile of each individual vessel.
