US-based cruise line Princess Cruises has named its fourth Royal-class ship ‘Sky Princess’.

The vessel is expected to enter service for Mediterranean voyages in October 2019 and follows its three sister ships, namely Royal Princess, Regal Princess and Majestic Princess.

The 143,700t ship is said to feature an improved design platform compared to the one used for earlier Royal-class ships and will be able to accommodate 3,660 passengers.

Princess Cruises group president Jan Swartz said: “When Princess merged with Sitmar Cruises in 1988, Sky Princess joined our fleet and sailed with us for 12 years.

“Now more than 30 years later, a new Sky Princess will join the fleet, featuring our modern design platform and contemporary innovations offered to exceed our guests’ expectations.”

Sky Princess will incorporate a number of key features also found on her Royal-class sister ships to offer improved guest experience, including a central Piazza-style atrium, Princess Live! entertainment venue and sanctuary, as well as Camp Discovery youth and teen centres.

In addition, the vessel will have multiple dining venues such as the Salty Dog Grill, Alfredo’s Pizzeria, Vines Wine Bar, Chef’s Table Lumiere and World Fresh Marketplace.

Princess Cruises noted that around 80% of all staterooms onboard will be equipped with balconies, and the vessel will also feature an outdoor ‘Movies Under the Stars’ theatre.

Sky Princess’ inaugural Mediterranean voyages will comprise ten cruise departures across eight itineraries.
