UK-based engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce has acquired Team Italia/Onyx Marine, a marine automation tools specialist, which Rolls-Royce said will help strengthen its “power systems” business unit and the company’s position in the yacht market.
The corporation said it had been collaborating with Team Italia since 2019 and discussions had led the companies to agree their growth strategies could be best met if the 23-year-old company became part of Rolls-Royce.
Rolls-Royce said it aims for a “bridge-to-propellor” strategy and this purchase will significantly aid the ‘bridge’ end of the plan.
As a well-known engine maker, Rolls-Royce has existing expertise in the ‘propellor’ end but Team Italia’s experience designing integrated bridges with navigation and automation systems will help Rolls-Royce build its presence in the competitive Italian ship-building sector.
Team Italia managing director Massimo Minnella said: “We are proud and very happy to become part of the Rolls-Royce group.”
“We strongly believe that in order to implement a structured expansion and maintain the high level of continuity and growth that will secure the future of our company, we need an excellent partner and marine expert like Rolls-Royce Power Systems at our side. We see excellent prospects for reaping benefits together in the global luxury yacht market.”
