Shell Marine has signed an agreement to provide lubricants for all the vessels operated by global maritime contractor Van Oord.

Under the five-year deal, Shell Marine will supply its Marine Integrated Lubrication and Expert Solutions (MILES), which aim to optimise customer benefits by combining the supply of high-performance lubricants with various tailor-made technical services, logistics and delivery options.

Van Oord will also be benefitted from Shell Marine’s LubeMonitor 4T programme that helps reduce lubrication feed rates and oil consumption.

It will receive support from Shell Marine’s global team of field-based engineers as and when required.

The team will assist in lubrication surveys, vessel evaluations and in-depth technical and application support, among others.

“Its five-year commitment marks a new step forward in our relationship.”

Van Oord Ship Management Department staff director Jaap de Jong said: “We must have 100% reliability and optimum efficiency wherever our vessels are operating, and we must also be able to demonstrate the sustainability of our operations to meet our own goals of corporate social responsibility and those of the authorities we work with.”

Van Oord is a Dutch family owned company and primarily works as a global marine contractor.

Shell Marine Global marketing manager Marcus Schaerer said: “Shell Marine is gaining global recognition for its MILES programme, with uptake accelerating around the world. Van Oord is a long-standing Shell Marine customer.

“Its five-year commitment marks a new step forward in our relationship.

“It also underlines the value and reassurance that MILES can provide maritime businesses involved in complex projects that offer little leeway for any disruption to vessel uptime.”

Shell Marine is a business unit of the global energy company Shell and currently serves more than 10,000 vessels, ranging from large ocean-going tankers to small fishing boats in over 700 ports across 60 countries worldwide.
