Ports of Stockholm has announced that its newest port, Stockholm Norvik Port, has become fully operational on time and on budget despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

The port’s container terminal was opened in May and a RoRo terminal was opened in November.

Construction on Stockholm Norvik Port began in 2016 and entailed an investment of Skr3.8bn ($460m).

More than 200 contractors were involved in the construction of the port, which covers 44h and is located 50km south of Stockholm.

The port consists of two parts, a container terminal and a RoRo terminal.

The container terminal is operated by Hutchison Ports while the RoRo terminal is operated by Ports of Stockholm.

The container terminal features a natural depth of 16.5m and its 1,325m-long quay can handle the largest vessels operating in the Baltic Sea.

It also features a 4,000m² transhipment warehouse.

Ports of Stockholm chief commercial officer Johan Wallén said: “Now that all of Stockholm Norvik Port is finally completed, we can offer substantially greater capacity and opportunities for our customers to grow.

“We can also offer our customers improved service in the form of greater possibilities to store and transfer cargo, as well as eco-efficient alternatives to transport goods to and from Stockholm.”
