This initiative forms part of a broader strategy by both companies to provide dependable and efficient retrofit solutions for the offshore sector.

GLO Marine and VMS leverage their engineering expertise and project management capabilities to oversee the logistics, compliance, and client specifications necessary for such extensive operations.

The project is being executed through an integrated engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) model, with GLO Marine overseeing all aspects of engineering, prefabrication, logistics, and installation.

This structure provides the client with a single point of contact throughout the duration of the project, streamlining communication and project management.

GLO Marine operations director Alin Pohilca said: “By approaching this as a multi-vessel programme rather than managing each vessel individually, we have successfully reduced engineering hours by 25% and materials and logistics costs by 15% per vessel.

“This achievement was made possible through the development of a plug-and-play system, which not only accelerates retrofit execution but also ensures cost reductions while maintaining the expected quality standards.”

The scope of the project includes the implementation of a full ballast water treatment system (BWTS) retrofit and lifecycle management plan for the 16 vessels.

As of now, the teams have successfully delivered 16 BWTS systems, conducted surveys on 14 vessels, and produced 12 engineering packages that have received class approval.

Additionally, they have completed prefabrication and materials procurement for five vessels and have retrofitted and commissioned two vessels.

VMS Group engineering manager Palle Andersen said: “Strategic partnerships like ours enable engineering, equipment, and service teams to act as one—delivering scalable, efficient, and future-ready solutions.”

In November 2024, GLO Marine secured a retrofit programme for a fleet of 22 vessels with an undisclosed offshore support vessel operator. This initiative focuses on the installation of BWTS across five countries and three continents.

GLO Marine, as the programme manager, will coordinate the retrofit project by collaborating with clients, suppliers, and industry partners, while also securing regulatory certifications.

Additionally, they will manage the procurement and logistics of 60 tonnes of materials and 700m of pipe spools, and oversee the deployment of skilled crews for installation and commissioning.
