The repeat order was placed last month. Last year, Wartsila was awarded a similar contract for three VLECs, which were being built at SHI.

The ships will be equipped with Wartsila’s custom reliquefaction unit and a high-pressure ethane fuel supply system.

Additionally, the system will feature the newest version of Operim, the remote monitoring and diagnosis tool developed by Warsila.

Wartsila Gas Solutions sales and marketing director Kjell Ove Ulstein said: “As the market leader in cargo system designs for VLECs, we are pleased to have been awarded this order. The ships will operate on ethane fuel, so the design of the cargo handling system is very specialised.

The equipment will be provided for two new 124,000 dwt shuttle tankers.

In May, Wartsila received a contract from Kuwait Petroleum Company (KPC) subsidiary Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) to upgrade its four vessels.

It will install the Wartsila Fuel Efficiency Boost solution to the main engines of the ships.
