Wartsila has secured a contract to deliver four shaft generator systems for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier ships that are being built for Greek ship management service provider Capital Gas Ship Management.
Currently, the two 174,000cbm capacity ships are undergoing construction at the South Korea-based Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard.

Wartsila received the order in August and plans to deliver the equipment to the shipyard in 2022.
Each ship will be equipped with two 1.9MW Wartsila shaft generators.
The systems enable the main engine to produce electricity for use on board the vessels by allowing power take-off.
This helps in cutting down fuel consumption and emission levels as well as enhancing the vessels Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and future Carbon Intensity index (CII).

Wartsila claims to have the shipping industry’s most extensive track record in delivering shaft generator systems, with deployments in more than 600 ships.
Earlier this month, Wartsila collaborated with Silverstream Technologies to deploy the latter’s air lubrication system on an AP Moller-Maersk-owned large container ship on a trial basis.
