In its press statement, YCA said that this arrangement will ensure “reliable” access to Northern Europe throughout the year, while facilitating the utilisation of renewable and low-emission fuels.

The company also anticipates that the addition of these vessels will lead to a reduction in freight costs per tonne, improved margins, and greater operational flexibility.

Furthermore, the company believes that this new fleet will “future-proof” its shipping operations and further “strengthen” its position in the developing low-emission ammonia sector.

Yara Clean Ammonia CEO Hans Olav Raen said: “Building scalable, reliable supply chains is critical to unlocking the hydrogen economy. This contract is a logistical and cost-efficient way to move large volumes of ammonia to Europe, reducing operational bottlenecks and delivering economies of scale.”
