Cetasol’s iHelm updated version to boost fleet monitoring capabilities

The update aims to address fuel cost increases, emissions regulations, and unplanned downtime.

Cetasol has introduced Cloud Dashboard 2.0, an updated version of its iHelm decision support platform, to address key operational challenges in the maritime sector.

The latest update added several fleet monitoring features, including vessel location replay, performance analytics tools, and improved engine health monitoring. These features are available through a new interface.

The new update aims to address fuel cost increases, emissions regulations, and reduce unplanned operational interruptions.

Last month, Cetasol secured €2.3m ($2.7m) in seed funding to enhance its AI-driven decision support and digital twin technology aimed at reducing ship fuel consumption.

The round was co-led by BackingMinds and Shift4Good, with continued backing from existing investor Sarsia.

iHelm, which is intended to gather data from vessels, uses digital twin technology for both the vessel and engine.

Cetasol stated that rising fuel costs remain a significant concern for shipping companies, with fuel “often accounting for 30-50% of total operating costs”.

New emissions standards, such as the IMO’s EEXI and CII, require operators to demonstrate ongoing improvements in energy efficiency and carbon intensity, said the company.

Cetasol also noted that operational disruptions caused by undetected engine problems can lead to extensive costs for fleet operators.

Real-time monitoring and early warning features, now available in Cloud Dashboard 2.0, are designed to support a shift towards preventative maintenance, enabling crews to address technical issues before they escalate and disrupt schedules, stated the company.

Data fragmentation poses another challenge for the maritime industry, with vessel information often dispersed across different formats and sources, according to the company.

Cetasol’s upgraded platform consolidates operational data into a single interface, allowing operators to visualise fleet activity, review past voyages, and compare vessel performance. This integration is intended to facilitate prompt and informed decision-making.

The latest version of Cloud Dashboard also includes an improved real-time monitoring page with vessel view and replay functions, supporting both immediate operational response and retrospective analysis.

The new engine alarm feature is designed for early detection of technical irregularities, providing further support for predictive maintenance strategies.

In July 2023, the company announced the development of Helm Decision Support for pilot boats for the Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket).

The SMA operates 23 pilot stations across seven areas along the Swedish coast and owns over 70 pilot boats. As part of this project, Cetasol agreed to supply 29 units to the SMA.
