Hybrid systems

At Europort, ABC presents solutions for hybrid systems. One of ABC’s typical characteristics is that it keeps focussing at the future and continues to invest in research and development.

Where diesel and HFO have been the primary fuel in marine applications, we have found that, due to stricter emissions legislation and the belief in environmentally friendly solutions, our customers have been looking for newer concepts in recent years.

The solutions ABC offers to its customers go in two directions. Firstly, ABC is constantly working on optimising its standard engines on diesel and HFO. Secondly, the company attaches great importance to fuel diversity, which allows engines to run on alternative fuels (CNG, LNG, methanol, biofuels, etc.). The diesel prices and state aid for alternative (bio) fuels are currently preventing the mass development of those solutions. However, this situation is transient so we expect alternative fuels will gain renewed importance in the future.

With the introduction of a third pillar, where ABC also offers hybrid systems, the company introduces a flexible range of propulsion and power generation solutions. For this, ABC concluded cooperation agreements with several solid partners.

This makes it possible for the company to complete its engines with various expansion options including main engines, complete generator sets, power management systems, alternative power sources and even complete propulsion packages. In addition, ABC serves as a ‘one stop shop’ where customers can assemble their specific requirements.

Given the current and future environmental regulations, these types of systems provide a flexible solution to answer the current and future customer demand.

Both the combination of mechanical and/or electric propulsion systems (up to 15MW) belong to the offer. As a result, ABC can respond to the demand of e.g. inland waterway vessels, tugs, coasters, container feeders, dredgers, offshore vessels, …, seagoing vessels and even military applications.
