Alnor Ventilation Systems

Shipbuilding is a highly challenging process, especially when it comes to installing ventilation and air conditioning systems. The ventilation system must be resistant to changing weather conditions, high humidity, and salinity while being failure-free and easy to maintain.

Reliability and maintenance are key aspects of shipbuilding because, although equipment failures can be easily fixed onshore, fixing them at sea is a lot more challenging. Employees onboard a vessel must be able to repair a failure quickly and efficiently, or else the health or life of the ship’s crew may be compromised.

Maritime certification

Alnor’s pre-insulated products are carefully controlled, and their quality is confirmed using the most important certificates, including:

• EC-Type Examination (Module B) certificate
• TÜV Rheinland monitoring and testing for round ventilation ducts and fittings
• RISE Technical Approval no. 0103/07 for distribution of air demand for air tightness class D, according to EN 12237
• Fraunhofer-Institut für Bauphysik IBP, which covers insertion loss, sound power level, and pressure loss measurements on splitter silencers

SPIRAL® system silencers for the shipping industry

SPIRAL system silencers, made of galvanised sheet metal, have all of the hygiene certificates that are required by the industry. The rectangular silencers have specific hygiene certificates for silencers made of galvanised sheet metal, and for silencers made from stainless steel sheet metal.

SPIRAL system round ducts and fittings have hygiene certificates that are specific to fittings made from aluminium sheet metal. Round ducts or fittings made of galvanised or stainless steel also have the necessary hygiene certificates.

Selected SPIRAL system acoustic dampers have also been tested by the Institute of Power Engineering- Research Institute’s ITC Heat Technology Department in Łódź. The echo chamber measurement method was used, in accordance with the guidelines specified by the PN-EN ISO 7235:2009 Acoustics and Laboratory Measurement Procedures for Ducted Silencers and Air-Terminal Units- Insertion Loss, Flow Noise, and Total Pressure Loss report.

The dampers also adhere to standards outlined in the ISO document PN-EN ISO 3741:2010 Acoustics- Determination Of Sound Power Levels Of Noise Sources Using Sound Pressure – Precision Methods For Reverberation Rooms.

Marine ducts and fittings

Alnor’s range of permanent offerings includes:

• Elements with 10mm of thick insulation layering (wool and air). Alternatives include 16mm or 25mm layers of Marine wool insulation.
• IZOL-safe fittings with a seal on the inside and outside of the shell
• Galvanised round elements with a class D air tightness rating. These elements are also available in aluminium or stainless steel variations.
• Aluminium ventilation ducts and fittings.
• Stainless steel ventilation ducts and fittings made of 1.4301/1.4404 steel.
• Silencers, dampers, grills, diffusers, and other elements are available for Revit. Alnor also offers BIM libraries, MagiCAD, and Ventpack software.

Ventilation systems

The company also produces ventilation ducts and fittings for fresh air extraction, as well as distribution systems for industrial uses, detached houses, and blocks of flats.

Alnor’s ventilation system comprises pressed and segmented spiral ducts, bends, T-pieces, reducers, connectors, plugs, and takeoffs, with diameters from 80mm to 1600mm. Ducts and duct components are manufactured according to Swedish Technical Approval no. 0103/07, which is issued by SP Certifiering.

A standard ventilation system is made of galvanised steel. When fittings are equipped with gaskets, they comply with sealing class D in accordance with the PN-EN 12237:2005 standard.

Ventilation elements made of stainless steel or aluminium sheet metal can be used in atypical places with increased humidity, or in places where ventilation ducts come into contact with chemical agents.
