A passenger who was on the German cruise ship MV Artania has died after testing positive for coronavirus.

Western Australian (WA) health authorities said that the passenger was in his 60s and was a foreigner. He died at Joondalup Health Campus.

Seven crew members on the ship tested positive for coronavirus on the ship, while another two were taken to the Joondalup Health Campus for treatment.

Earlier this week, Artania refused to leave WA waters after the confirmation of coronavirus cases onboard.

The Australian Border Force (ABF) ordered the cruise ship to leave Fremantle.
