DESMI Ocean Guard has secured a contract from French company Sea Tankers for the CompactClean Ballast Water Management System (BWMS).
In accordance with the terms of the contract, DESMI Ocean Guard will install the CompactClean BWMS on Sea Tankers’ existing fleet of vessels.
DESMI Ocean Guard will also be responsible for all the required engineering for the retrofit installations.
This year, the first three vessels will be retrofitted with CompactClean BWMS while the remaining installation will follow in the subsequent years.
As part of the contract, all vessels will be retrofitted with a CompactClean-750 system installed in a container on the deck of the vessel.
Sea Tankers said that the solution has been selected as the tankers have submerged ballast pumps without any pump room where the BWMS can be installed.
DESMI Ocean Guard will deliver the complete package, which includes BWMS equipment in a containerised solution along with an engineering package, including manufacturing drawings of piping, pipe supports, foundations, as well as a detailed installation manual for each vessel.
Sea Tankers deputy managing director Francis Laverriere said that the CompactClean system was chosen as it has a small footprint to facilitate installation inside a 20ft container and due to its simplicity.
Laverriere added: “We particularly appreciated the professionalism of the DESMI team, commercially and technically. We have the feeling that we realise the projects in partnership and not in a customer versus supplier relationship.
“DESMI was very responsive and found the necessary capabilities to adapt the system onto our parcel tankers in an EX environment. We chose DESMI for the retrofit of our fleet mainly for these reasons.”
