MacGregor and Kongsberg Digital have agreed to work on the authentication of the operational benefits of a standardised and secure digital service solution for the marine industry.

According to the agreement, MacGregor will examine the efficiency of its OnWatch Scout condition monitoring and predictive maintenance service within Kongsberg Digital’s Vessel Insight data infrastructure solution.

Using the Vessel Insight solution, data from interfaced systems can be gathered and sent securely to the Kongsberg Digital Kognifai platform at minimal expenses.

MacGregor cargo handling cranes have been deployed on pilot-basis at merchant customer ships. They will be used for primary in-service testing and data analysis.

MacGregor digital and business transformation vice-president Dennis Mol said: “We are pleased to be extending our relationship with Kongsberg and working closely with Kongsberg Digital to accelerate the testing of digital solutions focused on further enhancing critical system safety, availability, efficiency and sustainability.”

MacGregor operates as a division of Finland-based cargo-handling machinery firm Cargotec. It offers maritime cargo and load handling solutions such as NMF, Porsgrunn, Pusnes, MacGregor, Hatlapa, Rapp, Triplex and TTS products.

Operating as a part of Norwegian marine technology firm Kongsberg, Kongsberg Digital serves its clients within maritime, renewables and utilities, as well as oil and gas sectors.

In September, MacGregor announced the development of a new cargo system for one of the world’s largest container ships MSC Gülsün.
