MacGregor has been selected to upgrade and optimise the container stowage systems installed on-board seven Hapag-Lloyd C-class container vessels.
The modification work on the Samsung 9,300 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) series vessels has already started and is expected to be completed next month.

In order to carry out the work, MacGregor has used its Cargo Boost service, which is designed to increase the earning potential of existing container vessels by improving their cargo-carrying efficiency.
The upgrade is the result of two separate contracts secured by MacGregor in December for four vessels and in January for three more vessels.
Under the contracts, MacGregor will also update any relevant documentation, coordinate loading computer revisions, as well as offer project management and full supervision during the modification works on-board.

The MacGregor Cargo Boost service is part of the company’s PlusPartner concept, a novel approach to ship design that considers all parts of the cargo handling system as a whole.
The service is capable of delivering greater cargo system flexibility and allowing higher stack weights for 40ft containers.
Hapag-Lloyd Technical Fleet Management director Lutz-Michael Dyck said: “In the case of these C-class vessels, it was not possible to take them out of service for any length of time. Therefore all work had to be done under tight schedules and completed within only a couple of working days.
“This called for very careful and detailed pre-planning, which was complemented with full-time supervision on-board the vessels during the upgrade work.”
Hapag-Lloyd has already received three optimised ships back from MacGregor and has placed them in service.
