US-based company American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has launched a new software solution, ABS Nautical Systems (NS) Vessel Performance, to improve vessel efficiency, reduce costs and assist emissions reporting and compliance.
Designed to enhance efficiency and control costs, the NS Vessel Performance software works through a ship-specific performance model based on vessel design characteristics, as well as tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs).
KPIs are formed on the basis of the ship performance model and analyses of regularly captured data, while also providing decision support ashore and on-board the vessel.
The ship-specific performance model provides performance predictions using sea trial data and other relevant information to create performance baselines.
ABS noted that combining model output with the visualisation and analysis of vessel operations data helps improve decision-making.
ABS Nautical Systems vice-president and COO Stephen Schwarz said: "We take an innovative approach to vessel performance and this solution delivers the industry’s most comprehensive performance management tool available.
"By uniting all the major aspects of performance management, informed by the understanding of vessel design, our solution provides the next generation of actionable insight and decision support with custom-designed visualisations of KPIs and is backed by consultation with ABS experts at regular intervals."
The tool also helps in providing operational profiles for fleet-wide comparison of operational efficiency, maintenance strategies as well as conformance to charter party requirements.
Additionally, the tool supports environmental compliance and reporting, including the European Union’s monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) regulation for carbon emissions and assists towards an active ship energy efficiency management plan.
