Germany-based Caterpillar Marine’s Cat Asset Intelligence software has been selected by Crowley Maritime to be installed into one if its vessels.
Crowley’s tugboat, Guide will be installed with Caterpillar Marine’s custom vessel monitoring and diagnostics solution, which will perform 24/7 monitoring of its main engines, generators, thrusters, and key systems.
The whole process is automated, involving data capture through analysis and advisory recommendations for each piece of equipment, including the Caterpillar Marine asset intelligence team providing advisory and management reports with recommendations for individual equipment, while advising Crowley in ways to save money and impart efficiency in operation.
The scalable and customisable Cat Asset Intelligence services will also provide monitoring and diagnostics covering the entire vessel, which are then used by fleet advisors to provide clients like Crowley with advice on optimal vessel operations, as well as equipment management.
Crowley Maritime strategic engineering vice-president Bill Metcalf said: "It can give us early warning of a catastrophic failure so we can schedule maintenance.
"It can save us time and money during the inspection process. It can help us keep our vessels and people out of harm’s way.
