Damen Shipyards Group has chosen to integrate Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE digital platform into its shipbuilding operations to help boost overall efficiency.
The platform integrates various solutions such as ‘Designed for Sea’, ‘Winning Bid for Sea’, ‘Optimised Production for Sea’, and ‘On Time to Sea’ to improve sales, marketing, design, engineering, manufacturing and services.
Damen aims to digitally incorporate the 3DEXPERIENCE solution into its 32 shipyards and 9,000-strong workforce, which currently operates in various engineering offices and shipbuilding sites.
3DEXPERIENCE consolidates multiple design processes into a single digital environment, and will also enable Damen to get in touch with various requirements, regulations and project planning.
Damen can also capture and reuse existing data across all business units via the platform, as well as handle design changes, plan manufacturing earlier in the design process, and collaborate with suppliers to deliver ships both on time and on budget.
The company will be better equipped to efficiently manage various programmes and product portfolios, in addition to support after-sales services and new product launches.
Dassault Systèmes marine and offshore industry vice-president Alain Houard said: “Competitive shipbuilders must explore new ways to leverage the advanced technologies that are defining a new era in shipbuilding, and gain an edge in the industry.
“The 3DEXPERIENCE platform and our industry solution experiences transform shipbuilding practices to support strategic objectives.
“The digital management of complex projects, collaboration across multisite ecosystems, efficient production planning and virtually exploring alternative design scenarios all impact the delivery of high-quality vessels that meet, or better yet exceed their customers’ expectations.”
The company currently provides 3D design software, 3D digital mock-up and product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions to various industrial sectors.
