Norwegian owner Samba has placed an order with Damen Shipyards Group to deliver a Multi Cat 2712 aquaculture workboat.
The new vessel will be the third in Samba’s fleet of workboats and will have a number of client-specified customisations.
Work on the first new-build vessel will be carried out at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld in the Netherlands, while delivery of the unit will take place within this month.
Samba technical manager Eirik Haugland said: “This new vessel will be a beneficial addition to our growing fleet. She is rigged to carry out mooring and maintenance work in the aquaculture industry and will also be used in the oil industry’s spot market.”
Damen Stavanger sales manager Remko Hottentot added: “The Damen Multi Cat range is one of our most trusted and proven products, available for fast delivery from stock.”
“The vessels are highly suited to the aquaculture market, for carrying out day-to-day work such as transport of personnel / equipment and maintenance. These kind of workboats are our core business and we also have a very effective global service network.”
In 2013, Samba acquired a Damen MultiCat 2409 on a four-year contract for treating salmon with hydrogen peroxide, a treatment for lice and amoebic gill disease, including mooring jobs in the salmon industry.
In recent years, Damen has developed several specialised designed fish farming suitable vessels, such as the new utility vessel (UV) series.
