ABB has selected Öresund Dry Docks for the electrification of two HH Ferries’ vessels. Named M/F Tycho Brahe and M/F Aurora, the two ferries will be fitted with batteries, an energy storage control system, and Onboard DC Grid technology for emission-free operations.

Tycho Brahe will enter the dry-dock for the conversion in April 2016, while Aurora will undergo the transformation in October 2016.

The two ferries will be powered by rechargeable batteries and will operate on a 4km-long route between Helsingør (Denmark) and Helsingborg (Sweden), transporting more than 7.4 million passengers and 1.9 million vehicles a year.

The automated shore-side charging stations at the origin and destination points will charge the ferries, curbing total emissions by more than 50%.

Kalmar has received a contract from the Port of Vienna's WienCont Container Terminal for the supply of three DCG100-45ED6 twin-lift capability empty container handlers.

The DCG100-45ED6 container handlers form part of DCG80-100 empty container handler range, which was launched in November 2016.

The handlers can be equipped with a reverse warning system, a tyre pressure monitoring system and the Kalmar Smart Fleet monitoring system for efficient handling operations.

The new handlers will complement the terminal’s existing fleet of four Kalmar DRF/DRG reachstackers, two DRF/DRG empty container reachstackers, a DCF100-45E6 empty container handler, a DCG70-32E3 container handler and one Kalmar TT612D terminal tractor.

Deliveries of the three container handlers are scheduled for April 2017.
