Kalmar, a unit of cargo handling solutions provider Cargotec, has announced that it has secured an order to provide 25 forklift trucks from Algeria-based port procurement company, Groupement D'Interêt Commun Des Entreprises Portuaires (GICEP).

The Kalmar DCG150-12 trucks, delivered in the second quarter of this year, will conduct stevedoring operations at the ports of Algiers, Annaba, Mostaganem, Oran, and Tenes.

With the newly delivered order, which represents their fourth order for Kalmar cargo handling equipment in the last three years, GICEP intends to modernise its fleet.

"The order demonstrates their satisfaction with the reliability and quality of Kalmar forklift trucks."

The new forklift will also help increase the company’s capacity at their ports.

Kalmar provided 25 reachstackers for use in five different ports, as well as a number of medium and heavy-capacity forklift trucks for GICEP.

Kalmar Forklift Trucks sales and marketing director Peter Ivarsson said: "This order is a continuation of our valuable relationship with GICEP, which has made significant equipment investments in recent years.

“The order demonstrates their satisfaction with the reliability and quality of Kalmar forklift trucks as well as our local technical expertise.”

Kalmar’s DCG150-12 medium-capacity forklift trucks have the ability to handle loads of up to 15t, and have a 1,200mm load centre.

Consuming minimal fuel, the trucks can be used in various cargo-handling applications.

Recently, Kalmar won an order from Suomen Satamatekniikka, a subsidiary of Steveco, to provide four diesel-electric straddle carriers, ten heavy-duty terminal tractors for roll-on / roll-off (RoRo) handling, four light forklift trucks, and two heavy forklift trucks.

The order will be delivered in the latter part of this year and the first quarter of next year.
