Norwegian firm Østensjø Rederi has secured new contracts for three vessels, namely Edda Fauna, Edda Flora and Edda Sun.

Østensjø Rederi has signed new contracts with DeepOcean, a provider of subsea services, for Edda Fauna and Edda Flora.

The contracts will start in Q1 2021 and secure firm utilisation until the end of next year.

Equipped with a fully integrated hybrid battery system, the two vessels will be supplied to DeepOcean.

This environmental-friendly system, which received essential backing from ENOVA, will significantly cut down fuel consumption and emissions.

In addition, Østensjø Rederi has signed a contract extension with Fugro for Edda Sun, securing firm utilisation until Q4 2021.

This vessel has been commissioned to Østensjø Rederi on a bareboat contract since 2017.

Østensjø Rederi CEO Kenneth Walland said: “We are very satisfied with being awarded the new contracts and we look forward to continue delivering safe and efficient operation for our trusted clients.

“Just as we were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and expected to have a positive summer market, Covid-19 hit us, turning our lives upside down. I am, however, proud of the fact that we have been able to work our way through a very difficult time without any temporary or permanent layoffs of personnel.

“Covid-19 is still very much part of our everyday life and continues to challenge Østensjø and other maritime service providers, but we are prepared to meet challenges head-on and continue to create business for our company.”

Østensjø’s entire fleet of 31 vessels is currently in operation.
