British tech company StratumFive has joined KVH Industries’ Watch Solution Partner programme and will use KVH Watch to improve connectivity and data flow between vessels and shore.

KVH Watch will support StratumFive’s ability to help vessels acquire proficiencies in tracking, routing, security, emissions and fuel consumption.

StratumFive is the creator of a voyage informatics platform named Podium.

Voyage informatics help to enhance safety, efficiency and ecological sustainability in the shipping industry.

Actionable insights supplied by data analytics platforms can help in better decision-making, optimised equipment performance and minimised fuel consumption.

Connectivity is vital for maritime operators using digital processes and voyage monitoring technologies.

An internet of things (IoT) connectivity as a service (CaaS) solution, KVH Watch offers secure 24/7/365 machine-to-Cloud satellite connectivity.

It allows remote monitoring of on-board equipment and the ability to carry out on-demand remote expert interventions via video, voice or text through KVH’s global high-throughput satellite (HTS) network.

KVH Industries noted that satellite connectivity provides video interventions and remote support in real-time while vessels are at sea.

It also fulfils the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) requirement that ships should separate their information technology (IT) data flow from their operational technology (OT) data flow.

StratumFive COO Ross Martin said: “For successful digitalisation, a vessel’s onboard IoT system needs to be connected to Podium and its advanced contextualisation capabilities. The key to optimisation is getting data onshore to the experts to deliver efficiencies in tracking, routing, safety, security, fuel consumption and emissions.

“KVH Watch high-speed connectivity will enable us to provide actionable insights faster. In addition, KVH Watch’s Remote Expert Intervention gives us the ability to put a person virtually on the bridge for real-time interventions and troubleshooting.”

KVH Watch can be deployed by marine equipment manufacturers, IoT analytics experts, multi-card service providers and shipyards.

Its services can be obtained as a monthly subscription.

In March, Tile Marine, a marine services firm in India and the Middle East, also joined KVH Industries’ Watch Solution Partner programme.
