Port Authority of Timor-Leste (APORTIL) has received the new RoPax 6716 ferry, Berlin-Ramelau, from Damen Shipyards.
This ferry has been constructed at Damen’s Yichang Shipyard, located in China.

After its arrival at Timor-Leste’s capital city Dili, Berlin-Ramelau commenced an extensive training programme for the new crew members.
This 67m-long vessel will connect Dili with the neighbouring island of Ataúro as well as the enclave of Oecusse-Ambeno.
It has a capacity to accommodate up to 308 passengers, as well as private and commercial vehicles, and cargo.
Damen regional director Gysbert Boersma said: “Despite all sorts of challenges arising over the course of the project due to the worldwide pandemic, I am delighted that we managed to deliver the vessel on time. This was only possible due to the joint efforts of Aportil, IMS Nord, the KFW bank and Damen Shipyards.

Timor-Leste Transport Minister H.E. José Agostinho da Silva said: “Maritime connectivity reinforces national unity and is the main source of supply for the populations of Oecusse-Ambeno and Ataúro. The Maritime Transport Policy provides for the extension of maritime links to the east and south coast, and this is the original objective of the Berlin-Ramelau.”
In October this year, Damen handed over the first of its new class of liquified gas carrier 6000 liquefied natural gas bunkering vessels, named Optimus, to Elenger.
