Shipbuilding company Damen has delivered the last of three tugs to Poland’s largest towage company, WUZ Port and Maritime Services, in Gdansk.

The two companies celebrated the flag-raising ceremony for the three vessels, two ASD Tug 2811s and one ASD Tug 2813, as the newest tug named PAX officially joined WUZ’s fleet at the company’s home port.

WUZ CEO Marek Wengrzyn said: “We are very pleased to welcome the final tug of this order to our fleet. Damen’s tugs have proven themselves to be reliable and these compact tugs will be a valuable asset in the port and will further enhance the service provision that we offer to our clients.”

While the Pax was built by the Albwardy Damen shipyard in the UAE, the first two vessels, Ares and Mars, were built at the Damen Song Cam shipyard in Vietnam and delivered to Gdansk in the middle of the year.

The new vessel becomes the seventh Damen tug to be operated by WUZ in its fleet and will allow the company to respond to the construction of the Port of Gdansk Authority’s new container terminal as well as its expansion of industrial areas and quaysides.

The compact Azimuth Stern Drive tugs are designed to be low-maintenance vessels that can be used for push-pull, harbour assisting and escort towing operations, as well as firefighting, savage, oil pollution, hose handling and anchor handling operations.

As a 2811 model, Pax will be able to deliver 60t of bollard pull ahead and 57t astern with a max speed of 13 knots.

Earlier this year, Damen launched its newest ASD model, the 2111, which became available to operators in Q3 with construction underway at Damen Shipyards Changde in China.

Cryptocurrency - The world’s most polarizing technology theme

The globalization and digitization of travel and tourism are both driving the demand for easy-to-use and cheap international transaction processes and payment systems. Tourists are beginning to discover that cryptocurrencies offer such opportunities—by simplifying cross-border transactions and overcoming the associated foreign currency exchange costs. At present, cryptocurrencies are the most advanced application of public blockchains that promise benefits such as a universal means of payment and minimal fees through the removal of intermediaries.
