Silver Nova is a new Evolution series cruise ship currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. It will be operated by Silversea Cruises (Silversea), a luxury cruise line based in Monaco.

Silversea is part of Royal Caribbean Group, a global cruise holding company based in the US.

Silver Nova will be the 11th ship in the Silversea fleet. The steel-cutting ceremony for the cruise ship was held at the Meyer Werft shipyard in November 2021. The ship is expected to be delivered in Summer 2023 and is scheduled to sail on its maiden voyage in January 2024.

Design and features

Silver Nova will have a length of 244.2m, beam of 29.6m and gross tonnage of 54,700t. It will have 11 decks and be able to accommodate 728 guests as well as 556 crew.

The vessel will feature an entirely new, asymmetrical design, which will be a first for the cruise line. The design will feature all-new outdoor venues, including a reimagined pool deck.

As well as being built as an environment-friendly ship through carbon-neutral construction, the vessel will use hybrid power sources with liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its main fuel, which will be complemented by fuel cells and batteries.

It is expected to be the first ship in the cruise industry to achieve local emission-free operation while at port by using an onshore energy supply and shutting down main power generation systems.

Silver Nova will also feature a micro auto gasification system to reduce on-board waste volume.

Other sustainability features will include a waste heat recovery system, and a hydrodynamic hull and propulsion design, which will improve the energy efficiency of the ship.

The vessel will be able to achieve an average speed of 19.4k.
