Dickey Boats

Dickey Boats is enjoying an ongoing period of growth and as such is looking for experienced aluminium boat building professionals to join its expanding team.

This family-owned and run business produces very distinctive (and acclaimed) custom aluminium alloy boats up to 60ft. Therefore, your experience on custom work in aluminium will find an immediate home here.

The key roles we need to fill right now as priority are:

  • Structural fabricator welder
  • Aluminium boat builder / welder

At the top of the list of personal requirements are those qualities that will ensure you fit snugly into the operation: you’ll be someone who is highly self-motivated, energetic and extremely professional, who enjoys working in a small, quality-driven team.

You will have extensive experience in welding / fabricating aluminium (positional work, including overhead), the ability to work effectively under pressure and to deadlines, and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement. Prior experience in the marine environment would be a bonus but is not necessarily an absolute if your skills are relevant.

"For the right person, there is genuine opportunity to grow and the company is happy to assist with relocation from within New Zealand to the Hawkes Bay to help things drop into place."

A high level of expertise in aluminium MIG welding is considered critical, due to the nature of these particular boats, which are constructed to superlative levels of strength, accuracy and finish. Indeed, reviewers have likened the Dickey product to a seagoing Bentley, such is the focus on detail and the ability of the owner to tailor the design to reflect his or her subtle preferences.

Of equal importance will be your ability to work autonomously, on-time and with a focus on producing work of consistently high quality, commensurate with the brand.

All applicants selected for interview will be requested to carry out (at the very least) a trade test to show us what magic you can do with alloy, and this will also afford you the opportunity to appreciate that this team really does do things their own inimitable way.

For the right person, there is genuine opportunity to grow and the company is happy to assist with relocation from within New Zealand to the Hawkes Bay to help things drop into place.

Please do not contact Dickey Boats directly; the team are too busy winning awards for their boats!
